  15. <p>     DIED. ALEXIS SMITH, 72, theater and movie star; in Los Angeles.
  16. As a contract player during the 1940s and '50s, the exquisite,
  17. statuesque Smith appeared with some of the great male stars
  18. of the age--Gable, Flynn, Grant--and a lesser-known actor
  19. named Reagan. With age, her Hollywood career inevitably faded,
  20. but in 1971 Smith made a stage triumph as a worldly-wise former
  21. Ziegfeld Follies show girl in Stephen Sondheim's Follies, a
  22. memorably cynical performance for which she won a Tony Award.
